Pourewa Restoration Group

The Pourewa Valley is in the heart of Auckland City. The remnant coastal forest is being restored by a number of volunteer groups headed by the Friends Of Pourewa Valley.

Pourewa Valley Integrated Plan

One of the biggest developments to go forward is the formation of the Nga Kaitiaki Hapori o Pourewa (“The Community Guardians of Pourewa”), of which we (the Pourewa Restoration Group/PRG) are part of. This name was gifted to us by Ngati Whatua Orakei.

Due to the ecological significance and recreational value of the Pourewa Valley, PRG along with other working volunteer groups want to help preserve our vision of the Valley for future generations to come.

As this is a community led project, PRG will do our best to ensure our piece of the puzzle (Selwyn Bush) is restored by removing pest plants/animals and encouraging native fauna/flora to thrive.

As the Valley continues to be restored, it can be enjoyed by local residents or visitors from across Tamaki Makaurau/Aotearoa, using any of the various recreational facilities currently being built or planned.

So watch this space as we update you on our progress.
