More of the same. All of us weeded on the left of the track below the Stadium. The whole area infested with paspalum. Huge clumps needing digging out. Derek and Martin went for it like crazy. Pat did what she could. We found and filled a large weedbag. Martin had to leave a little early and just as well because it is still so hot we were drenched.
Derek has dug out bags and bags of ginger root from his Honeysuckle area.
Pat and Martin have been clearing and weeding a little further along from the first site Martin and Derek cleared of Honeysuckle. Dense creepers, mainly Morning Glory, covered dead trees were cut down by Martin and Derek while Pat cheered them on. As the weeds are smaller, being regrowth, we can see any seedlings growing and Mark them.
We walked around the whole area with Roy and found that Abdul has been stopped from mowing the walkways. This week we found out what that really means. Huge growth of Paspalum in the main dividing walkway at the top of the Honeysuckle area. Hard to know if we should try and buy a petrol driven weed-eater or just cut it down by hand and plant it up.
The Whau on the mini slope has grown really well. The council has contributed a little money this week so perhaps we can get more Whau in this winter. The bad paspalum area could perhaps be planted up with Whau.
We may have a new volunteer coming along next Sunday.
